Why I work in Family Law

The relationships we share with our loved ones are often central to our everyday lives, but when those relationships break down, it can feel incredibly overwhelming — not only are we tasked with navigating our feelings of grief, fear, and doubt, but we are also asked to make big decisions of lasting impact for both ourselves and our children.

 

In such difficult circumstances, the way forward isn’t always easy or obvious, so it helps to have someone there who knows what to do next, which is why I chose my path in family law – I wanted to bring clarity and direction to people facing uncertainty and unknowns in the breakdown of their relationships, and I wanted to provide practical guidance paired with compassion, kindness and confidence, to help people make the decisions that are best for them and their family.

Have you always worked in the legal industry?

From my past life as a communications specialist working with Indigenous communities in the native title space for nearly a decade, I made the leap into law in August 2021 when I joined the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia as a Legal Case Manager and Associate, and I have worked exclusively in family law ever since. I was admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of Queensland in March 2023 and joined the profession as a family lawyer shortly after, supporting clients in the Brisbane region and surrounds, and now as a member of the BWB team in Ipswich.
